The spider is about 2 inches wide.
It runs sideways like a crab. It's very fast.

You got the ID with your description, Giant Crab Spider! He’s also known as a Huntsman, Heteropoda venatoria. BTW, I highly recommend visiting Flat Island Preserve, It’s only a few miles from The Villages. I went there in a cold snap this time of year, but still saw interesting plants and animals. The goal of the place is to only have native species. It’s also an archealogical site. Right now is your best chance to avoid mosquitos. The site is like a tropical desert island. Thanks so much for your response. Do you have any other info on him/her? What do they eat? Do they prefer to stay indoors?
We’ll definitely check out Flat Island Preserve.
