So a friend on Facebook needs help figuring out what spider this is cause she has kids and pets. She lives in cold lake Alberta so upper north of the province
This is a harmless Jumping Spider. Tough to tell which kind because of the webbing in the way but some common species found in Alberta with the same coloring belong to the Habronattus genus.
It’s how some spiders rest, they build a soft bed that holds them in-place and it helps hide them from predators. They easily be can be found doing this on wooden hand rail supports on footbridges. Indoors, some species rest at the junction of walls and ceilings.

Thanks was just unsure if it was safe and all cause I’ve never seen a spider wrap it self in webbing
