Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

This is the second spider like this I’ve caught this week. The first one got trapped in a hairspray cap in my bathroom and this one was in my living room walking across the floor. I live in a basement apartment (fully finished). We thought it was a brown recluse but an image search on google also brought up a Metaltella simoni or also known as a Hacklemesh Weaver. I don’t want to bother them if they’re not a threat to myself or my family, so I’d like to know what they are.

I’m not sure if Metaltella simoni is considered a Hacklemesh Weaver. It is in a different family from the generic Hacklemesh Weavers but common names can vary so I guess that fits. This isn’t Metaltella simoni. It doesn’t appear you have them in Ohio. This is the Black Lace Weaver (Amaurobius ferox), apart of the Hacklemesh Weaver (Amaurobiidae) family.
