Is this a golden orb weaver spider? Also, why does the spider shake the web after it wraps the prey causing it to spin around? Thanks!!

She might be Gea heptagon, a species that we rarely see submitted. I don’t know if this is one of the Orbweavers that makes golden silk, I don’t think so. She shook the web because she sensed you -perhaps your shadow fell upon her- and she was attempting to look big and scary. It’s a defense against predators. A few species do this, including common Cellar Spiders. I saw a Banded Garden Spider do it and it was absolutely effective at scaring away the man who was standing next-to me. 😉
