Is this venomous? it seems rather docile as i put my hand by it and it didn't seem to care. Going to name him Charlie.

Great find! This little guy looks like a spitting spider to me. They aren’t dangerous because their fangs are too small to break the skin.
Cool! I think Carlie is a the Spitting Spider Scytodes atlacoya. https://bugguide.net/node/view/1865789 Our site doesn’t appear to have any filed previous submissions of the species. I checked BugGuide.net. They have more years of data and they do have submitted photos of this species from North Carolina. They have short fangs because the fangs are used to shoot a strand of venom mixed with adhesive at the prey. It’s an interesting use of fangs. 🙂
That looks right! I’ve fallen down a bit of a research hole (hence why I’m up at 12:30 haha) and these little guys are really cool! I need to see if I can find a couple to observe 🙂
Yes, they are wonderful! I’ve seen Spitting Spiders amid short grass on gravel surfaces, and another (a male, solid dark brown) was found (by someone else) in my garage, but I didn’t have the chance to get pictures of either.
Good to know! When it warms up I’ll look around there.
Great! I’d love to see what you find.
