Comments & ID Thoughts

I was impressed by this crab spider's excellent pattern-matching. It is on a bearded iris. Aside from the very common Misumena vatia, I haven't taken the time to puzzle out all the different crab spiders. Anyone want to take a crack at this one?

Misumenoides formosipes, a White-banded Crab Spider. This is my favorite color-changing species, they’re great at matching! They have a white or red band under the eyes, greenish “suspenders”, and often have black feet. Misumena vatia always has yellow in the eye area and never has black feet. Those are the ID tips I’ve memorized from other volunteers on this site. I’ve only found one specimen, so far, and it was beige on a beige plant.
