No I don’t know what it is. It was inside my couch! I live in NJ. I would hate to have sat on this accidentally. What kind is it and how can I get rid of it?

Herpyllus ecclesiasticus, also called the Eastern Parson spider. These guys are totally harmless to humans, but they eat lots of pests (and other spiders!). They are extremely fast and have good vision, so they are pretty hard to catch. I would recommend getting rid of any food sources for them, like moths and fruit flies. If they don’t have anything to eat, they will leave pretty soon. Thankfully these guys are nocturnal and solitary, so you won’t see them out and about all that often.
