Thanks Jellyfish. This photo looks ventral. I agree that it is probably a Steatoda species. I don’t have their ventral markings memorized, yet. I didn’t expect to memorize the things that I did.
The body on it was super super tiny like smaller than a quarter of an inch…ugh I can’t think of what I can compare it to! I should have held something by it when taking the picture but I was too scared lol so I put on gloves scooped it up in a container and ran it out to my garden I’m really trying to NOT squish them instantly
I think that’s great! Yes if it is small that sounds consistent with the Steatoda species. I am finding that trying to identify the spiders helps to make me less arachnophobic, and now I have a pet tarantula. Maybe you will be next! I like them much more when they are contained.
I would guess Steatoda bipunctata or another species of false widow. How big is the body?
