Comments & ID Thoughts

I’m assuming this is a orb weaver. She appeared on our porch a few weeks ago. She would tear down her web in the morning and rebuild in the evening. Guessing she just laid her eggs last night as there was a massive egg nest on our outdoor chair cushion.

She’s gorgeous! I think she’s Neoscona oaxacensis, but not 100% sure. Most of our site’s volunteers haven’t seen this species submitted yet. They are usually black and white and found in the area of the West Coast of USA. The ornate markings vary. Here’s BugGuide’s page on differentiating Neoscona species: https://bugguide.net/node/view/1991
