Harmless to humans. Araneus sp., possibly Araneus saevus.

All spiders are venomous, with few exceptions. The good news is that only 25 species out of more than 40.000 can pose a threat to human health.

Ugly? As a spider lover, I beg to differ 😉 .
Anyway, if it’s still with you, I suggest you release it near a shrub. That’s where it belongs. It’s a male, actually. I don’t know if you fond him in your place, but consider that males often lose their way and get trapped indoors while roaming around in search of a mate.
