Comments & ID Thoughts

I have now seen 2 of these little guys in my down stairs stair well. I suspect it is a Utah crab spider (he's rather cute) but I am curious as to if they are toxic or not, and if I should be worried.

Yes, it could be Bassaniana utahensis. Most spiders have venom for killing their prey. They avoid large animals and bite in self-defense if our skin is too close against them or if they think we are a danger to their eggs or hatchlings. Some people can have allergic reactions, like with stinging insects. Microbial infections are possible from the introduction of pathogens into broken skin. So, bites are mostly avoidable and usually of little medical consequence. It depends on your immune system. I think crab spiders are cute too.
