I found this in my outside cellarway, outside my home, in an enclosed entrance we call the dugout. The spider alive was about 4 inches in diameter. I never saw a spider this big in all my life here in Maryland. It is female because it had a cream colored ball attached to it for eggs. We think someone placed it inside this small building entrance way to our cellar, which was enclosed. I also heard a loud thud the other night about 2 oclock in the morning. I hope someone can identify this spider, which is dead in this picture, had sprayed it with bug spray and killed it.
She’s a Dark Fishing Spider, Dolomedes tenebrosus. She wasn’t dangerous, too bad she and her babies ended up dead. Sorry about neighbors, I know exactly what it’s like when a neighbor doesn’t want another neighbor around and one of the neighbors seems potentially violent. You might consider a movement-activated floodlight video camera. Or at least a movement activated floodlight. It also helps to find allies in the neighborhood, if there are enough people.
