Found under wooden furniture. Fine, extensive muslin-style web. She’s slow moving and doesn’t seek refuge anywhere. Seems quite happy in the open whilst indoors. A large ex-bluebottle was in the web.
She’s Steatoda grossa, a False Black Widow. They are safe to have indoors. They even kill and eat many dangerous spiders and insects. She moves when she’s in darkness. They stop moving in the light. They live outdoors also. They’re in North America also. I have them outdoors and indoors. Mine seem to mostly eat small moths. These are the type of spiders that make true cobweb-style webs. Enjoy her!
Thanks so much for that identification and information. She’s still there and seems content to wait things out. Now that her habitat has been exposed, though not damaged, I’ll be interested to see if she’s still there in the morning.
