I think this may be a yellow garden spider but based on size it seems to be too large to be one. Curious what kind of spider it is and if it's venomous

Yes, you had the answer. She was Argiope aurantia, a Black and Yellow Garden Spider. The females are quite large. She had venom for killing prey swiftly, but it isn’t medically significant to humans. She would only bite in self-defense and they prefer to stay in their webs at night and hide in the daytime.
