This is an orb-weaver. I’m not sure of the specific species, but looks like maybe a cross orb-weaver? Not poisonous. Will only bite if threatened. I find them very interesting because the ones I’ve seen tend to build ornate webs during the evening hours, and scrunch up in a corner during the day, only to rebuild in the same spot the next night. Like fishing in a spot where you always seem to catch fish.
She looks like Araneus illaudatus, and several other Araneus species. I’m not sure if she can be identified from a photo. As BaileyJo said, she’s an Orbweaver and they are interesting to observe. I haven’t been able to find the daytime hiding spot of the one that lives on my porch.
Mine has a huge web it spun in one night. Day time she is in plain sight. I got some better pics and a video of her eating a fly. Odd part of the country and time of year but she’s a beauty. Can’t wait to see what my porch looks like in the morning.

That’s a great way to put it! Fishing Spiders tend to fish where people fish from shore in spots that are easy for kids to always catch fish. 🙂
