Araneus marmoreus, a Marbled Orbweaver. It is in the defensive pose, which is also the pose for sleeping. Try looking for her at night with a flashlight. It is easier to find the web in the dark than the spider. During bright daylight they eat their old web to recycle the nutrients. The new evening web will be cleaner, undamaged, and stickier than reusing the old web. She rests and hides during the day.
