That is a highly dangerous and deadly spider that is a black widow spider
Thank you. Yes, I discovered that when I was finally able to get close enough to see the underside of the abdomen. However, in my reading I find that they are helpful in eating mosquitoes and moths. And aren’t deadly unless you’re a young child or elderly. Certainly to be respected. Which made it difficult for me to kill it, Yet I also didn’t want neighbor children seeing it or playing with it, nor in my house. So I have taken care of it along with its loaded web of eggs.

It could have been a False Black Widow, Steatoda grossa. They are not dangerous. And calling Black Widows “highly dangerous and deadly” is fear- mongering. People in the US don’t die from them in modern times. Our website tries to counter-act the misinformation and false portrayals of spiders.
