I am guessing this is an orb spider, and perhaps a spotted orb spider. It was found near mine tailings near Helena. MT in a mountainous and wooded area. It was about 1" long.

Yes, she’s a Shamrock Orbweaver, Araneus trifolium. She’s fantastic! This species can be found in various colors on the abdomen with white markings. The legs are always alternating bands of a light color and a dark color. The leg colrs vary by spider also. This year most of the photos have been of peach-colored Shamrock Orbweavers, I think this is the first pic of a red one I’ve seen this year.
