I know it’s a tarantula and possibly a male? But I don’t know what type it is.

There’s probably someone here who knows more about them than I do. Please don’t tell anyone exactly where you found it. Many tarantula species are threatened by the poachers who sell them into the pet trade. This is a cute one too. 🙂
Around here people don’t care and I’m not telling anyone. I’ve lived here all my life and have never seen one. I was really surprised! He was just crawling across the road. No one around here poaches for spiders. They may kill them though. I let this one go back to where I found him. He’s bigger than he looks once we held him in our hand. 🙂
I would have held him too, it’s just what you gotta do with big spiders. We’ve had poachers try to use the site to find rare spiders. They pretend to be volunteers and say they need details about the exact location of the spider. I try to head them off by telling people who submit pics of rarer spiders to not give out info. Yes, it’s sad around here how stupid people want to kill any type of bug or spider. They are so quick to do away with any type insect or spiders. It’s ridiculous! I was just so excited when I saw this beauty crawling across the road. I have never seen a tarantula or even a spider this huge in our area. It was a real treat for me! Im pretty sure this is a louisiana tarantula
Found out it’s a Aphonopelma Hentzi – Texas Brown Tarantula. They are all around where we live.
