I think she is Argiope argentata, a Silver Garden Spider. This is her underside (ventral). I haven’t seen a photo of the ventral markings before, they’re perfect for a superhero costume. Her web is an orb web (web with a circle pattern) and yes it’s a classic. 🙂 The spiderweb emoji is based on the orb web.
Thank you! I posted a link to a photo of her other side. I agree that it looks like a superhero costume.
Here is a photo of the other side. It was a struggle since I was shooting into the sun. This is a link to my Public Dropbox folder. Wasn’t sure how to keep a 2nd photo associated with the original within SpiderID:?dl=0
Wow! Now I think my ID may be incorrect. That’s the first time I’ve seen someone use Dropbox to get around our outdated programming. In case we lose your link, the way to get a second photo onto this site is just to upload it as a new photo. That will make it visible on this site also. Your images are linked by your account. You can see all of anyone’s photos by clicking profile pic> camera icon. They came out great for shots into sunlight!
Thank you for the advice. I should have realized my photos would be linked by my account. I posted the 2nd photo the correct way. What do you think she is now?
Our forum discussions are also linked to our accounts. Emails can be sent directly through the forum and everything we say is public. There used to be problems with people pressuring the moderator and with general harassment when the discussions could be done privately. I think this is better. I use the account logs to see if someone is new and to help watch for trolls.
Hello, my photo that you are commenting on here is still listed as Unidentified. Can you help with adding the ID, as it will ask about male/female, maturity, attributes, and I don’t know such details. I will be tagging my other photo of the same spider with this same comment. I don’t quite know my way around the site. Thank you!
Sorry, it isn’t your fault or responsibilty. We have only two volunteers that have the technical access to fill in the info. One is busy creating a new version of this website, the other is home schooling with only one computer during the pandemic. I’ll eventually probably have some moderator ability to do it myself when the new version of this website is ready. So, please don’t worry, you don’t need to do anything and hopefully we’ll get the site updated soon. 🙂
Ah OK. Thanks for that info. Wasn’t sure if I was dropping the ball. I’m back here because I’ve got some new photos of what I believe is a trapdoor spider that must have been evicted during our heavy rains yesterday. I’ll need help figuring out which type it is.
