In the early morning it crawls to the roof and when I shine a flashlight in the area it hides. I need to know what it is and if it is harmful to humans and/or dogs.

She’s an Orbweaver kind of spider. I can’t see her well, but she has an orb (circle) web. She is not dangerous to people or pets. She only wants to kill big flying insects, sometimes other spiders, and any other bug that happens to become a little snack in her web. They hunt in the dark and hide and rest during the light of day.
