My husband wonders if this is a false widow. Can be anyone identify it for us please?

Steatoda borealis. Yes, she is a species of False Widow. They aren’t dangerous to people or pets. They are portrayed in some UK news media as deadly predators of humans. It’s fiction presented as factual.
Thanks for confirming! She is living in our bathroom. Non-aggressive and spends much of her time at ceiling height. Do you know she is female? We live in northern England where they are less common I think. I’m not sure I would want her nesting!!
Yes, I’m fairly certain this is a mature female. Male spiders are smaller than females and they don’t live as long…often due to the larger females’ appetites. I think they like the wall/ceiling area because that’s where flying insects trapped in a house tend to fly to. Other types of spiders also hunt in that area and the spiders eat each other. There are False Widows native to Europe that are spreading globally. One species is spreading within the UK to new ranges. Thanks again for coming back to me. My husband is delighted to have identified a False Widow in our property. She’s welcome to stay as long as she likes!
