Comments & ID Thoughts

Found busy feeding on a bee or fly it had caught in its carefully crafted web trap it had created over our trampoline. My son was jumping and freaked out and jumped even higher and screamed and ran inside. I have no idea if this spider is even toxic to humans. Can anyone tell me what it is?

https://spiderid.com/spider/araneidae/trichonephila/fenestrata/ She’s an Orbweaver kind of spider, Trichonephila fenestrata. She’s a big spider, but not medically dangerous to humans. She won’t bite unless she needs to protect herself from being injured against skin. Spiders are fragile and pressure against their bodies really hurts and scares them. If she lands on someone it is okay, she can be transferred to a new spot. Your son can learn to observe and photograph her. He might even learn to like his big spider. 🙂
