Comments & ID Thoughts
I live in New Mexico and this spider was meandering across my living room carpet. I have kept tarantulas in the past as pets and in-house bug eaters (I was single) but I do not consider myself an expert. I've tried to ID this guy via photos on the net but there seems to be a fair number of different color/types of "recluse" photos out there. This one's "plain brown wrapper is confusing me. I don't want to kill him if he's of a beneficial classification. please assist.

Wolf Spider (Hogna antelucana). Wolf Spiders are harmless and are beneficial towards “pest” management. Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of confusion on what a Brown Recluse looks like. All of the Brown Recluse (Loxosceles spp.) that we have in North America look basically the same. However, misidentifications can muddy up the water of the internet searches of legitimate Brown Recluse pictures. As a general rule, if the spider doesn’t look like this https://spiderid.com/picture/1947/ its not a Brown Recluse.
