Comments & ID Thoughts

I'd like to know what this spider is and whether it is dangerous. Living in our house for 16 years I've seen several spiders but never anything like this one. It was about 1/2" from tip to tip lengthwise, crawling up our TV in the great room; it was very adept at lateral movement and pivoting in place (probably the case for many spiders). I have a video but it didn't seem that I could upload that - the only other thing that the video would have shown was the movement of the "mouth" (I have no idea whether it's a mouth) in its front going slightly away from the body and back AND opening and closing (separating slightly outward and back) as it moved.

Definitely not dangerous. This is just a Tan Jumping Spider (Platycryptus undatus). Also, by “mouth” I’m assuming you mean the pedipalps. Those are sensory organs, like antennae, that are also used as sexual organs by male spiders.
