Comments & ID Thoughts
Crab Spider as found 5/16/22 in my front yard. I did not touch it or provoke the spider and was able to get a pretty good picture on my phone and then move along. Leaving the Wolf Spider to do what they do.

This appears to be the Goldenrod Crab Spider, Misumena vatia.
I think it’s Misumenoides formosipes, Misumena vatia has yellow around the eyes. M. formosipes has a red or white band under the eyes and a greater range of colors it can be. They have the same default appearance otherwise, when they haven’t changed their colors. The eye area colors are vague in the photo, I don’t see yellow. What do you think?
I see what you mean. I don’t see yellow either, now that you pointed that out. Definitely looks like it could be M. formosipes.
Yes I meant to say “Crab Spider” instead of “Wolf Spider.”
Note: I also found one last year in Redland Oregon.
That’s okay! This is a spider that can change colors to match what it sees around it. The colors that it is able to change to varies with the species. I love seeing pictures of them to see what they are capable of matching theirselves to.
