Comments & ID Thoughts

I think this is a Dark Fishing Spider. It’s quite large, about 2.5” long. Was inside my shower stall-photographed it next to the leg of a shower chair.
It was right around midnight.

I think it’s a Huntsman, Heteropoda (different feet) venatoria. Looks male. Dark Fishing Spiders have markings bands on their legs. Heteropoda have feet that are all pointed in different directions. That helps them spin around and propel theirselves quickly, pushing off on the foot that is at the best angle and direction for the movement. I’m not totally sure my ID is correct, I’ll check the species data for your state.

https://bugguide.net/node/view/6930/data BugGuide doesn’t have any West Virginia Heteropoda sightings. family Philodromidae is a possibility. Anyone who knows, please feel free to jump in.
