I think it's a Metacyrba Taeniola based on some quick googling but I'm not sure

Just to provide more information: When I was trying to move him somewhere safer he preferred to move sideways/backwards instead of forward and seemed to have decent sight
I think your identification is correct. There is a subspecies in New Mexico, Metacyrba taeniola ssp. similis, that I suspect is a match. Your observations are interesting. Jumping Spiders do have particularly excellent eyesight. I never thought about it, yes they do tend to walk backwards and sideways when I’m trying to photograph them. They usually have two very large eyes in front and several smaller eyes facing various directions. I had just learned eye positioning could be a huge indicator so I tried to check but he didn’t stay still enough to get a good look. When I said “quick” googling I may have mislead. I was looking into it for at least an hour lol. Luckily the college around here has a lot of excellent information on local critters so typically the majority of the work is done
