I’m not sure what is happening in the picture. The larger of the 2 isn’t actually a spider but an Opilione. The Opiliones are an order of arachnids known as harvestmen, harvesters, or daddy longlegs. They don’t have any venom and don’t build webs. This one might have gotten itself tangled in a spiders web. I can’t identify the smaller spider to the right. It could have been killed by the harvestman -some of whom eat spiders. Or it could have been killed by something else. Harvestmen are harmless to humans.
Thank you! I’ve never seen a daddy long legs without, well, long legs, and such a large body. This is some dust it got caught in. I wasn’t concerned with the smaller one, I’ve just seen a LOT of these lately and didn’t look like anything I’d ever seen before. Thanks for your help!
There are some with big bodies and short curly legs. Right Leg II is curly in your photo.
I have been seeing different species of Opiliones where I live too. The West Coast of USA has a lot of them. Check out genus Eurybunus, there are big ones that are purple or orange with black and white banded legs. They look totally fake. https://bugguide.net/node/view/255476/bgimage
