thanks giving it a try. I’m not sure which orbweaver species the linked article is about. This is a Widow in genus Latrodectus. I think L.geometricus, a Brown Widow. The photo is of the underside of the spider showing the classic “hourglass” marking. The marking is white to orangey on Brown Widows. Welcome to the website!

Latrodectus geometricus, a Brown Widow. This is one of the very few species of spiders in the US with medically significant venom. It is extremely rarely fatal, but a bite should be seen by a medical professional. Bites aren’t common, the spider would prefer to hide or escape from people. They may bite to protect egg sacks or their own bodies from injury. The egg sacks look like spiky off-white balls. The kindest thing to do is to gently relocate the spider if you don’t want her where she is.
