Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

I believe this to be a Giant Golden Orb Weaver. There is another spider on it's back. I would speculate it to be a male. This was the best frame of a video that could see both in focus. This was on 白云山 baiyun mountain, in Guangzhou. The spiders legs are near 15cm top to bottom, the size of my hand. The picture is of course from the bottom. A top side shot was impossible.

Yes she appears to be Nephila pilipes. That probably is a male on her back. Spider size is given in body length and does not include the legs. That would roughly give her a body length of 5cm. The average male has a body length of 5mm. I’m happy that you had the opportunity to see them.
