Initial search leads me to suspect it may be a Fishing Spider? It was in our backyard chicken coop in a wooded part of Wyandotte County, KS. That is a 4 inch hinge it is standing on.

Hi. I could be more certain with a face shot, but will say this is a dark fishing spider.
Species Dolomedes tenebrosusThey are not medically significant. One of the species not necessarily found near water
Probably preying on bugs that frequent chicken coups.

I agree. They usually have orange leg band markings and the other North American Fishing Spiders don’t have orange.

Here is where colors really don’t count. I have seen yellows and whites also and in variance of saturation.
