This spider first appeared at my house August 9th 2022. I hadn’t seen one of these since my childhood. In the 20 years of living at my current residence this is the first time I’ve seen one. It’s a welcome guest camped out by my screened in porch.

Wikipedia describes this spider as thus:
The spider species Argiope aurantia is commonly known as the yellow garden spider, black and yellow garden spider, golden garden spider, writing spider, zigzag spider, zipper spider, black and yellow argiope, corn spider, Steeler spider, or McKinley spider. The species was first described by Hippolyte Lucas in 1833
