I have no guesses. Some information that may be unclear due to image quality : 1.It doesn't have the violin on its head like a brown recluse. 2.I've only seen the spider at night, in the day its web is there, but it is not. 3. its about an inch or so long. 4. It lives on our front gate, which we frequently use. So thats scary. Any help is appreciated.

https://bugguide.net/node/view/26287 Deinopsis spinosa This is an Ogre-faced Spider, it is ugly but not dangerous. I recognized it by the little blue rectangular web it is holding with its feet. This spider is also called a Net-casting Spider. That’s the cool part. It makes the stretchy little web and goes up to the prey holding up the web and puts it over the prey like a net. If you could post photos of it hunting, that would be awesome!
Id have to track it down while its hunting! I think I mentioned I’ve only seen it in its web at night, so it’d be hard trying to video it :’)
I was worried it was dangerous, as we do have some Venomous spiders by that gate (there’s a brown widow, but she runs away when i tap the gate gently) but I’m generally scared of spiders and this guys a bit too close for comfort if they’re venomus haha
Good point, I’m accustomed to hunting bugs in the yard at night. I have a variety of flashlights. Some of my neighbors installed giant fences or motion sensor floodlights because they think I’m creepy. It’s a densely-built privacy-free neighborhood, like many in Florida. At least some neighbors think I’m funny or cool.
The Widows and Recluses are the only spiders in USA that have medically significant venom. It’s nice that you trained your Brown Widow. 🙂
