Comments & ID Thoughts

I believe this is a full grown black widow heavy with more eggs. She had a hard time ambling up under the house to hide. I was cleaning in the area and gave us both a fright. This photo was taken right outside my front door where I was putting away a half used bag of fertilizer that had gotten left there in the spring. We live in central California, it’s been HOT and the spiders have been loving it. She was so big around I couldn’t see the hourglass shape on her belly. Her size was impressive, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a widow that big!

Honestly, she doesnt look much bigger then the small egg sac behind her. Is their red marks on back? If not, its probably a species of Steatoda (false widows).
