I have never seen this spider in WV in 30 years. looks like a Black widow with no markings although this picture doesn't do it justice(looks elongated) I've seen a couple similar posts to mine though. I have seen tons in my house and under my house this summer and fall. but before now I had never seen them before so I'm thinking of some kind of orb Weaver? The closest thing I have seen is a false widow that is native to Africa so probably not right. They are about the size and shape of a widow full grown but I've also seen them very minute and they are still black to very dark brown. I have never seen them in a web. And I have found them under the house and in the house and on the porch and so they seem to be everywhere with no specific preference to light dark wet dry.
