I like how she blends her body into the shape of the egg sack. vma, thank you very much for submitting these photos, they’re really cool! Thanks. I found this spider wandering in my house so I put her in a plant. She liked the lampshade next to the plant. I now have two, a Cobweb and this one. Just decided to post today.
Thanks! Nocturnal insects are often drawn to light bulbs. Many spiders take advantage of the lure by putting a web between to bulb and the outside world. The lampshade is a good 3D shape for the framework attachment of a web. I don’t know when the hatchlings will emerge, it varies by species, could be days or months. Her hatchlings will probably need to disperse away from each other by ballooning outdoors. Ballooning is an interesting thing baby spiders can do. They can fly for miles! I’ve seen little spiders flying around like that. I’ve read they can get great altitudes and go many miles. I guess when they all hatch I’ll have to take my lamp outside. This is all very engrossing. And it puts a smile on my face. It’s great to know someone else finds it interesting.
