Not ground layer. Found on tree

Looks like a moth. The splotchy markings are perfect for matching bark.

You’re welcome! I started looking for moths last year because the drought limited the amount of spiders. I go to a university running trail in a wooded area because there are small overhead lamps down the trail that attract moths to cling to trees near the lamps.
