This is crazy! I have spent so much time actively searching for spiders and I have never FOUND a Argiope aurantia garden spider!!! Well.. I mean I have never found one, photographed it and IDENTIFYING it. I HAVE NEVER seen one on my active searches, which 99.9 percent of the time are in remote areas. They just love residences and neighborhood blocks. I have seen dozens of them on days I take a walk, but they are in people yards so I don’t take a pic or try to retrieve them. You will! I’ve only found one, though they are common. I found it in tall grass and weeds in South Carolina between a deer stand and a golf course. I found most of my South Carolina orbweavers in places I could see or smell deer. I keep forgetting to try that here, there is a golf course and deer in my neighborhood.
