Spider was in bottom floor Den area next to a stone fireplace (house is built on a slab) This is the first of this type i have seen in this house. I have been a resident her for 45 years. I really don't want to see another one of these.

It looks to be a trapdoor spider of some sort. Likely a male that has gotten lost in search of a female.

I think this is a trapdoor spider too. You don’t find these too often because they typically live in a burrow in the ground and stay put. What a happy coincidence that you got to see one, I’m jealous.
