Long legged sac spider. Note the black booties and mouth parts.
Species Cheiracanthium mildei – BugGuide.Net
It does look like a sac spider in this pic but there are 2 other pictures …one of them a ventral. I think it is a non native huntsman spider from those pics. Have a look.and see what you think
I had to dig for those photos, but yea, this is a golden huntsman. Olios giganteus.
These would be native, just not spotted often. I know these guys, I used to play with them. Mostly, I would find themjust before sunset on the walls of the Palomar observatory. Found one in Portaland and one in Mt Vernon Wa, so why not Victoria.
They should be in my neck of the woods, but haven’t seen one.
Oh OK. I didn’t know they ranged as far north as Canada.
Their range has expanded drastically over the last decade. kind of surprises me as the are more an arid temparate zone spider. from central Texas to the southwest coast, then north to Oregon. Look at their range map now, seems they are adapting to much colder climate.
Successive heatwaves and lower rainfall might be helping them along. For some reason I thought they were confined to the southern states . I saw what you were talking about when I looked at the range map..
I didn’t even know they’re in USA! It does seem weird that they’re in Canada.
