I think this is a beautiful fishing spider in the genus Dolomedes. Probably this one …the dark fishing spider Dolomedes tenebrosus….

…even though they are called fishing spiders ….they are often found away from water. They are docile and harmless to humans..Must have given you quite a shock tho to see it wander in to you unannounced.
