Not sure at all but the spitting spider – Dictis striatipes – can get quite dark as it ages. – Check the photos of this individual – taken over the course of several days – and see if it matches your spider.

Thanks! I never read that note about the species on Bug Guide before. I didn’t know Spitting Spiders can be so dark. I’m not sure of the ID either, but it’s a viable choice.
Oh dear. I just came accross the set of photos and assumed they were the same individual taken over several days as I have seen others do….however after actually reading the note on the last photo just now…… I think the bugguide poster just used the “photos of the same individual” link to show different spiders …..found on different days….oops sorry….you can discard that bit of imaginary information. However some individuals do look quite dark. So there is still a chance it is a spitting spider.
