Can you help identify this spider?
- living in our kitchen for last 4 months
- has been in a web by the ceiling
- yesterday, lowered itself to the floor
- body and legs are about the size of a loonie ($1 Cdn)

I think there is a really good chance that this is the cat faced spider – Araneus gemmoides there is also an outside chance that it could be Araneus illaudatus which can look similar – but I don’t think it ranges that far north- see the link for a picture of A gemmoides – Your spider has the same pointed shoulders and on the very top of the abdomen there is a white line with 2 shallow V shapes.
