Picture of unidentified spider

Comments & ID Thoughts

I think this is a dark fishing spider. It's about an inch long, including legs, and it was on an outdoor signpost.

I think it’s Dolomedes scriptus. I’m surprised that you found it this early in the year. I’ve seen two wolf spiders ( in New Hampshire) outdoors so far this year, and almost no insects. D. tenebrosus and D. vitatus are most common for fishing spiders in Mass. I have seen D. scriptus. in the area. I’ll leave the ID open for others to give opinions for a while. Thank you for sharing your photo. https://bugguide.net/node/view/38828
