Comments & ID Thoughts

Sorry for the poor photo.

This spider was definitely jet black and shiny, which leads me to think it’s some sort of widow based on that characteristic and also my location of Gibraltar.

However the brown markings on the abdomen are throwing me off, any ideas?

A triangulate cobweb spider in the Steatoda genus. One of the false widows.
Species Steatoda triangulosa – BugGuide.Net

I think you are right that it is in the genus Steatoda …but I think it is likely to be a Mediterranean false widow…Steatoda paykulliana…..https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/97635422
