Comments & ID Thoughts

Sorry for the dirty counter in our garage! We don’t use it and it was installed by the previous home owners, so it’s a good little space for critters to crawl on.

This spider was maybe a half inch total, with the leg span. To my eyes, it looks to be black with light yellow stripes, and very little hair (not like a wolf spider at all). It wasn’t a jumper at all that I could see, and sometimes would be very relaxed in its movements wandering around, even when I was nearby. Other times, it was super quick and would scurry off.

We get a ton of other types of spiders in central Illinois, but I’ve never seen this one before. We live next to some pretty heavy wood lines, but we are still also in a residential area. We had really bad flooding a couple weeks ago and spiders were coming out of the woodwork, literally. I was seeing spiders every five minutes (not exaggerating), no matter where I was in my house or outside. I’m not sure now if this is just a spider that has come out that I wouldn’t normally see or what.

Thanks!
