I think this is Steatoda grossa…also known as the cupboard spider.

Thanks, I note that Naturalist NZ also names that species as the False Black Widow

Yes indeed that is another name for them they lose their pattern as they age and become dark brown. They have a similar shape to a true widow. These guys are harmless tho.
