A gold silk orb weaver, quite harmless. Her abdomen looks shrunken, maybe hidden some eggs recently.

Dan, Here’s a link to a study comparing the heart rates of T. clavata vs T. clavipes and 2 Argiope species https://www.wmur.com/article/invasive-joro-spiders-keep-cool-under-pressure/61855802 They found a reason Joro Spiders don’t seem to be afraid of humans.
That is a very interesting article. At UC Riverside, we looked at some few spider behavior response to stimulus, why a black widow will run and hide if aware of possible threat. Why a wolf spider will show a defensive pose, and several others.
I had the chance to observe black widows and southern house spiders over long times and their behaviors. My resident SHS could even predict weather. Never occurred to me a heart rate might be associated with this. Thanks for the link.
