https://bugguide.net/node/view/2020/data Wow! They range in the Eastern half of the US. They seem to be spreading north from the south. Canada has had sightings. They aren’t common here in New England yet. I’ve only seen one in South Carolina. I loved the colors, they remind me of vintage enameled jewelry. They’re one of the odd species of orb weavers that stay in their webs during the day and night. Some other cool Southern spider species seem to be spreading toward us too.
I am just so fascinated by this little creature. Thank you for the additional information and you are spot on with the likeness to vintage enameled jewelry. I cannot believe that there is a fellow Granite Stater here on this random website I stumbled upon! I’m so glad you commented.
What do you think is driving them northward?
